About Me

I have worked in the field of conscious movement and somatic therapy for 30 years. I was born and raised in a remote corner of south west Australia, on Wudjari and Ngadju lands , Kepa Kurl, also known as Esperance. The powerful and wild nature of this place was my first somatic experience, and continues to nourish and inspire me.
After graduating in Japanese Language and English literature at the University of Western Australia, I moved to Japan where I began my formal somatic training studying shiatsu, butoh, yoga and qigong for a period of five years. The dance journey continued in Spain, continuing with Godfrey Devereux’s Somatic Awareness yoga and beginning to develop my unique hybrid of butoh and flamenco, and working as a shiatsu therapist.
In 2003 in Paris, I established the Red Earth Centre for “global body investigation” a somatic research lab revolving around a core of somatic yoga, movement awareness, shiatsu and dance. I worked from there until I closed the centre in 2019, in order to to continue my work as a somatic practitioner whilst simultaneously developing my work in writing and publishing . My constant exploration of identity through somatic exploration has always been accompanied by reading and writing. These things have come together in my work for Paris based independent publishing house Synchronique Editions. where I now direct a collection of Australian First Nations literature and manage the Australian literature section of Synchronique’s bookshop , Le Rêve du papillon at 7, rue des Fossés -Saint-Jacques, Paris 5.
I continue to teach seasonal-based movement, blending accessible and gentle movements based in deconstructed yoga shapes through the lens of developmental movement and fundamental movement. I am motivated and inspired by the stories we hold in our bodies, and the way simple movement awareness touches deep links between perception, action, memory and change, revealing the full power and scope of the somatic intelligence. And with it, the power to cultivate awareness and promote change.
I am strongly influenced by Traditional Chinese Medicine’s holographic view of the human organism , and in recent years my evolving understanding of biotensegrity, developmental movement, Polyvagal theory, Dynamic Systems Theory and more recently the Somakinese School’s somatic groundwork method.
I teach and consult groups and individuals, people with specific needs, and neurodivergent children and adolescents. I teach online, in my studio in the suburbs of Paris, and on retreat. I mentor psychologists and psychotherapists seeking to integrate a somatic perspective into their work, and other movement teachers.
I now share my time between publishing (as the director of a collection of Australian First Nations literature for Synchronique Editions), my somatic work, writing and helping out at our family run bookshop in Paris, Le Rêve du papillon.
